Meet the Polo Angels – Style, Speed & Sisterhood on Horseback

They’re not your average polo team. The Polo Angels – Elena, Lucie, and Pearl – are bringing a fresh vibe to the traditionally elite sport of polo. With high energy, sharp style, and a strong message about women supporting women, these three athletes are making waves on and off the field. From fast-paced tournaments to fashion-forward appearances, they prove that sport and elegance can ride side by side. We caught up with the Polo Angels to talk horses, hustle, and how they’re rewriting the rules of the game.

ENPOLO: Can you tell us how the Polo Angels were born?

Polo Angels:

It was our father who came up with the name before we even started playing. Then, when the three of us began playing with him, we used that team name and wore jerseys that were way too big. Since it brings back such good memories, we decided to keep the name "Polo Angels."

ENPOLO: What drew you to polo?

Polo Angels:

The adrenaline, the love of horses, and the game itself—it requires both strategic thinking and speed.

ENPOLO: How do your personalities and playing styles complement each other on the field?

Polo Angels:

Lucie is the calmest of the three, which brings real balance to the team. Elena often plays in the back position, organizing the team and sending us powerful passes. Pearl boosts the team with her determination and ambition.

ENPOLO: What role does each sister play within the team?

Polo Angels:

Elena is the captain and usually plays in position 4. Pearl used to play position 1 for a long time, but now she often plays in 3. Lucie loves playing position 2—and she’s probably the best at aiming for goals!

ENPOLO: How important has the Polo Club de Chantilly been in your journey?

Polo Angels:

That’s where we started. We’ve always played there, and it’s been our base since the beginning.

ENPOLO: Do you have a standout memory from Chantilly?

Polo Angels:

Two major moments: winning the Open de France Féminin in 2020 with Caroline Anier, and again in 2021 with Morgan Van Overbroek.

ENPOLO: What are your biggest goals as a team?

Polo Angels:

Our dream is to keep growing and competing at a high level together, while also improving our string of horses—and maybe even playing in Argentina together again.

ENPOLO: Do you have any polo dreams you hope to achieve one day?

Polo Angels:

We’d love to start our own breeding operation—a "cria."

ENPOLO: What’s been your favorite tournament memory so far?

Polo Angels:

A fun and recent one: our win at the Ladies Cup in Deauville. Pearl’s horse, Besos, won Best Playing Pony (BPP), and two of us were on the team (Pearl, Elena, Carole, and Alicia).

ENPOLO: And the funniest or most unexpected moment during a match?

Polo Angels:

Probably when Pearl was called up to substitute in November 2024 for two matches in the Women’s Argentine Open—and ended up playing on the same team as Elena!

ENPOLO: How do you mentally prepare for a competition?

Polo Angels:

Pearl has a little routine for managing high-pressure games, inspired by tips from Paul Pinto, who coached Lucie and Pearl during the 2023 European Championships.

ENPOLO: What’s your training routine outside of matches?

Polo Angels:

We ride regularly, do practices and stick & ball sessions, and also work out two to three times a week for strength training.

ENPOLO: What do you think is the biggest challenge for a women’s team in polo?

Polo Angels:

Having good horses. In Argentina, the women have incredible setups. Playing there is a real challenge—but also a huge motivation. It can be a little frustrating sometimes, but that just makes winning even more rewarding.

ENPOLO: How do you manage pressure during high-level competitions?

Polo Angels:

Pearl does a bit of meditation before matches, Elena takes magnesium, and Lucie hides her stress well. Before a match, we also do breathing exercises.

ENPOLO: Do you have any role models or inspirations in the world of sports?

Polo Angels:

Since we were little, we’ve always been fascinated by Caroline Anier, a great French player who achieved a 4-goal handicap in mixed polo. And also Nina Clarkin—she’s an exceptional player in our eyes.

ENPOLO: What would you say to a young girl who dreams of playing polo?

Polo Angels:

That it’s the best addiction you can have. It’s more than just a sport—it’s a real way of life. The passion for horses and the adrenaline of the game make it a truly beautiful sport.

ENPOLO: How do you see women’s polo evolving in the coming years?

Polo Angels:

It’s clearly growing. More and more young girls are playing. There are more tournaments and organized circuits around the world. That said, in France, it’s still a niche sport and not widely publicized.

ENPOLO: What polo destination has impressed you the most?

Polo Angels:

Argentina—without hesitation.

ENPOLO: Do you have a team ritual before matches?

Polo Angels:

When the three of us play together, we like to do a little dance routine to Footloose. We started doing it during the Women’s Open in Chantilly, and it’s become our ritual to relax before the match—but mostly to build team spirit and cohesion.

ENPOLO: Lastly, any message for your fans and those who have supported you since the beginning?

Polo Angels:

Haha—we’re not sure we have fans! But we’d like to thank our partner, SoftShield, who’s been supporting us for several years. Their protective gear has become essential for us—we couldn’t play without it anymore.

Thank you so much Polo Angels!
